“ It is not good for man to be alone.” (Genesis 2:18) is the basis of spiritual community. It is not enough that we are a part of a local church. Each of us should be in a small group or a connect group. It is difficult to have fellowship with a crowd and it is impossible to have fellowship with yourself. God Himself is in a community of three persons existing as one. Even the Lord Jesus formed His very own connect group by gathering the apostles before He started His ministry. God encourages us to be in connect groups as it is through connect groups that we “know and grow”. We get to know each other whilst getting to know God deeper and together we grow in faith and maturity.
Dr Gilbert Bilezikian, an American Christian writer wrote,
“It is in small groups that people can get close enough to know each other, to care and share, to challenge and support, to confide and confess, to forgive and be forgiven, to laugh and weep together, to be accountable to each other, to watch over each other and to grow together. Personal growth does not happen in isolation. It is the result of interactive relationships. Small groups are God's gift to foster changes in character and spiritual growth.”
